Rockstar has finally confirmed the rumoured Red Dead Redemption port. It's set to launch on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17 with a physical release set to follow on October 13.

Before the GTA Trilogy was announced, leakers claimed talks about a Red Dead Redemption remaster/remake were being held at Rockstar, but it was allegedly shelved following the Trilogy's poor reception to focus on GTA 6. Rumours picked up again on June 28 as RDR was re-registered on the South Korean ratings board. This picked up steam with several website updates, including a new prefix for the game, "Rockstar Presents". It looks like all of this was leading toward the Nintendo Switch and PS4 ports, as this is not a remaster or remake as the website lists the original backwards compatible Xbox version for purchase alongside the two new versions.

Red Dead Redemption only appears as "Announced" on the PlayStation store page, but it has a digital listing on the Nintendo eShop that reveals it's $49.99. On Xbox 360 (via Xbox One and Series X/S backwards compatibility) you can pick it up for $29.99, with the Undead Nightmare pack costing $9.99. That's a total of $39.98. However, the PS4 and Switch ports include "bonus content from the Game of the Year edition".

We do know that the PS4 and Switch ports come bundled with the Undead Nightmare DLC, in which John Marston wakes up to "deranged hordes [who] have overrun the towns and outposts of the American frontier". You're tasked with saving his family by finding a cure, but you have to fend off the Western zombies long enough to do so.

The base game also sees you playing as John Marston, a former outlaw whose family are threatened by federal agents (better than zombies at least). It takes place right after the end of Red Dead Redemption 2, so if you picked up the series in 2018, you'll be ready to go. You can also pick up the original Red Dead Revolver right now on the PlayStation store for £7.19. The offer ends on August 16, just a day before the Red Dead Redemption port launches.

While not a remake or a remaster, we can at least play Red Dead Redemption on modern consoles now. That still leaves PC players waiting, however. You can play the sequel on Steam, but so far, there's still no word on the original getting ported.
