Brambleghast is a pretty lousy Pokemon. Sure, it'll get you through Scarlet & Violet's story campaign with very few issues, but it's barely used in the competitive scene. This is primarily down to its stats, as not only is Brambleghast as frail as an actual tumbleweed, but it's also not very strong, has a pretty bad movepool, and is fairly slow too. It's outclassed by dozens of other Pokemon that can fill the same role, but the recent integration of Pokemon Home could have given it a new lease on life.

For those unware, Pokemon Home integration has brought loads of new 'mons to Scarlet & Violet for the first time, expanding the game's Pokedex and viable competitive Pokemon a significant amount. It's unsurprisingly thrown the competitive community into chaos, as players desperately try to find the best combinations for double battles before the World Championships start next month. It's all a bit hectic.

One pairing that's proving too much for a lot of players is Urshifu (Rapid Strike) and Tornadus, two powerful Pokemon that were recently added. Urshifu's ability to ignore Protect, Reflect, and Intimidate coupled with Tornadus' use of the move Tailwind to increase speed is proving to be an almost unstoppable partnership, especially as Urshifu's Surging Strikes move always hits three time with guaranteed crits. Throw Terastalization on top of that and you have a force to be reckoned with.

However, pro Pokemon players such as WolfeyVGC have potentially come up with a solution, and that's in the form of a frail, goofy little tumbleweed called Brambleghast. As WolfeyVGC outlines in the video embedded above (thanks GamesRadar), Brambleghast's Grass typing means it resists a Surging Strikes from Urshifu, and even gets an Attack boost if Tornadus uses Tailwind thanks to its Wind Rider ability. This ability also makes it so potentially super-effective moves like Bleakwind Storm and Heat Wave are also nullified, two other popular moves that Tornadus players usually have.

On top of that, Brambleghast's unique Ghost/Grass typing means that it also has immunities to several other popular Pokemon pairings. Normal and Fighting type moves simply don't hit it thanks to its Ghost typing, and popular powder moves such as Rage Powder and Spore dont effect it either thanks to its Grass typing. It's still pretty frail and could be outmatched by players who know it's coming, but it could be a big player in the upcoming World Championships.

Given that WolfeyVGC is possibly the best competitive Pokemon player in the world, we can safely assume that he knows what he's talking about, though even he's a little unsure as to how viable Brambleghast will be in the long term. Hopefully, the goofy little ball of thorns can makes the most of its time in the spotlight.
