When starting Baldur's Gate 3, you'll quickly become acquainted with Zevlor, a former Hellrider commander and the resilient leader of the tiefling refugees. From the outset, he aids in repelling a goblin assault on the druid grove, standing as a bastion of honor and valor.

Yet, in Act 2, rumors from the surviving refugees at Last Light Inn suggest that Zevlor surrendered to the Absolute's forces. If you're seeking answers, though, you'll need to be patient: Zevlor won't be found with his fellow tiefling prisoners and Wulbren in the Moonrise Prisons—but rather, is trapped under it.

Where Is Zevlor In Moonrise Towers

Baldur's Gate 3 - Rows of mindflayer pods full of mindflayers

The exposition for this quest is frustratingly vague—Zevlor froze up during the attack, was captured, and is likely being held somewhere in the Moonrise Towers.

What the quest log doesn't tell you, however, is that he's actually in the Tadpoling Center far below the Moonrise Towers—an area you can't access until you've defeated Ketheric Thorm for the first time on the rooftops of Moonrise Towers.

So, until you've had your first showdown with the final boss of Act 2, don't bother running around the towers looking for the tiefling commander.

You'll be able to rescue Wulbren and the tiefling prisoners, however, as soon as you get to Moonrise Towers.

After following Ketheric Thorm into the depths of the Mindflayer Colony under the tower following your fight with him, head north to the Tadpoling Centre (X:691, Y:14), where you'll find rows and rows of Mindflayer pods. Zevlor is in one of the eastern row pods (second from the north).

How To Rescue Zevlor In The Moonrise Towers

You'll be able to release Zevlor from his pod by operating the Neural Apparatus to the north of the room.

Note that trapped across the room from Zevlor are two Flaming Fist soldiers who were guarding Grand Duke Ravengard.

Other than that, however, every other person in the pods has been turned into a Mindflayer—and releasing Zevlor will release all of them at the same time, as well as draw the aggression of every Intellect Devourer in the vicinity.

If you're set on rescuing him, choose the Release option on the apparatus, and prepare yourself for a tough fight against Mindflayers and Intellect Devourers.

The Mindflayers have Magic Resistance, giving them advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects. Target them with spells that utilize Attack Rolls instead.

After the fight, Zevlor will admit to you that he gave in to the Absolute's promises of power, having lost faith in his ability to protect his people after being exiled from Elturel with them.

Whether you comfort him or condemn him for his lapse in judgment is your choice—regardless, he'll offer to guide the other survivors safely out of the Tadpoling Center, taking them off your hands.
