Baldur's Gate 3 has already amassed an incredibly dedicated modding scene. Even before its full launch, players were modding away in Early Access, tweaking visuals and adding new features. But now, modders have a whole lot more to work with, including the player origins that you choose from in the character creator screen.

Now, not long after launch, someone has come up with their own - and it's pretty wild. Courtesy of Nexus Mods user NellsRelo, your character's backstory can be that they have just lived as a goat for the past ten years. That is exactly what it sounds like, with the unique origin stating that, for whatever reason, the character was turned into a goat and stayed that way for a decade. They've only just recently reverted to their original race, and as such, are taking some time to adjust. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"Having been a goat for so long, you know your way around animals and have become quite athletic," reads the mod's description over on its Nexus page. Due to this, you start with proficiency in Animal Handling and Athletics. But it doesn't stop there.

"You also gain Surefooted, granting you immunity to muddy and difficult terrain," says NellRelo. "Your irises are rectangular, granting you a small amount of Darkvision (6 meters), and you've taken a liking to bushy beards."

Right now, the mod won't change your character's appearance, but the stat changes have been implemented. Plus, D&D is all about using your imagination, so there's nothing stopping you from getting into that ten years of being a goat mindset - whatever that is. And whatever that entails.

While the mod comes courtesy of Nexus user NellsRelo, they're quick to praise the original creator of the origin, Reddit user Metabot. They came up with the tabletop RPG backstory in 2018, and gave NellsRelo their blessing to make it a reality in Baldur's Gate 3.

This is a little different from the other origins you can choose from. In Baldur's Gate 3, you can either play as one of the four preset origins, create your own, or brave the Dark Urge backstory. The devs advise that you steer clear of this path for your first playthrough though, since it seems to change the course of the story quite dramatically. It's also way more graphic than most players were expecting, so it's certainly not one for the squeamish. On the other hand, it is impressive that Larian Studios managed to get blood and guts looking so realistic.
