Remnant 2 is a third-person shooter action RPG with a startlingly steep difficulty curve that is not often attributed to this genre. Basically, this is Dark Souls but with guns and set in a post-apocalyptic modern city rather than a post-apocalyptic medieval kingdom. Both games also deliver the same unrelenting and merciless difficulty that will keep you on your toes at all times.

Similar to its inspiration, Remnant 2 also offers you a selection of classes or builds at the start of the game. Each is tailored to a specific game style, with its own strengths and weaknesses. Of the bunch, which ones can you consider the best builds to tackle the many dungeons and challenges?

7 Tank Build – Challenger Archetype

Tanks are damage-sponges that can dish it just as well as they can take it. For a Tank build, the best base archetype to choose is the Challenger. The Challenger is technically the Tank class of Remnant 2 due to its affinity for close-range weapons, which means playing as a Challenger requires you to get in the enemies’ faces almost all the time.

The Engineer archetype is a perfect complement secondary class to the ‘tanky’ nature of the Challenger. Include the Iron Greatsword as the weapon of choice for the Tank build to give it that extra wallop. It has decent range and damage, and it can help you mow down the annoying cannon fodders with relative ease and quickness. Tank builds are great for beginners as it calls for a pretty classic aggressive play style.

6 Bleed Build – Gunslinger Archetype

A classic build in RPGs, the Bleed build will rack up a ton of damage output even if it is not actively participating in combat. The main purpose of the Bleed build is to constantly inflict passive damage on enemies and keep that status debuff until the enemies are forced to say "Uncle!" by dropping dead. For this build, the Gunslinger archetype is a good fit for the role.

The best secondary class to create the best Bleed Gunslinger is the Hunter archetype. The Hunter is a master of dealing critical damage, and you need that as much as possible to increase the chances of inflicting passive damage. Anything that can improve your rate of fire will be crucial for the perfect Bleed build, so skills and traits that bolster that aspect is a must. The perfect Bleed build can make short work of enemies due to the constant damage output that they can deliver.

5 Healing Build

An integral member of any party in an RPG is the healer and that goes the same for Remnant 2. For this build, you will obviously go with the Medic archetype as it is a class that focuses primarily in healing. With the top-tier ability of not only keeping yourself alive, but also your teammates, the Healing build will come in extremely handy in both solo or co-op campaigns.

The primary downside with a Healing build is that damage will take a backseat from healing skills and traits. That means going into Remnant 2 solo and with a Healing build will not be the best idea. In that regard, co-op is where your Healing build character will shine. Focus on keeping everyone alive and let your teammates focus on doling out the punishment.

4 Vampire Build

Do you want to role-play as a vampire in Remnant 2? Why not try making a Vampire build? The Challenger archetype is ideal for this build, with the Invader archetype being the supplementary secondary class. Vampire builds are suited for advanced players as it requires being both aggressive and within striking range of enemies at all times, which means a lot of dodging and 'hit-and-run' tactics.

Inflicting Bleeding status effect is the main goal of this build, and along with the Lifesteal skill, will keep your character replenished throughout the hectic fast-paced battle. The only downside with this build is that it won’t be effective against enemies and bosses that require a long range approach, so having a Plan B during these scenarios is something to keep in mind.

3 Pain Bringer Build

Unlock unlimited ammunition for unlimited fun with this build. You will need to pick the Hunter archetype as your main and the Summoner archetype as the secondary class. Additionally, the Nightfall long gun with the Dreadwalker mod is an essential piece of the puzzle for the Pain Bringer build. The Dreadwalker mod gives you unlimited ammo, faster fire rate, and the lifesteal perk.

To ensure that the Dreadwalker mod is always accessible, you need to take steps to reduce the cooldown time. You can do this with the Ruined Heart relic to generate mod power. Having the Summoner archetype as your secondary class will allow you to summon several monsters which will help keep the enemies’ attention away from you as you maneuver around the field for better positioning or for giving you a few extra seconds until you can activate the Dreadwalker mod again.

2 Overlord Build

Remnant 2 Summoner with minions

The Overlord build in Remnant 2 can be pretty fun to play as the goal of this build is to improve the summoning ability to its fullest. Why get your hands dirty when you can summon a horde of monsters to rip and tear through the enemies? To ensure that the Overlord build is always at the ready, focusing on Skill Cooldown perks and items will be a priority.

A second archetype to choose that will further enhance the Summoner’s strengths is the Engineer archetype. Pair those two, and you have a monster and turret factory that can overwhelm bosses with sheer number. The Overlord build is about chaos and devastating the battlefield with an army to do your bidding – as stated earlier, this is a fun build to play.

1 Solo Build – Handler Archetype

While Remnant 2 is indeed designed for co-op, you can still solo the game if you wish. While all the archetypes can be used to tackle the game as a single player, some archetypes have far higher chances of survival. Case in point: the Handler archetype Solo build. This class gives you a dog companion that will prove considerably helpful in keeping you alive.

That said, you will need to put in the time to master this archetype, as you will not only need to keep track of your health but also manage and keep your companion dog alive. As for the secondary archetype to partner with the Handler, the Gunslinger proves to be the best candidate. The Gunslinger’s fantastic long-range capabilities can help keep the battles contained while giving you a good view of enemy placements and the environment. Survivability is the focus for the Solo build, and with this setup you have a higher chance of conquering the dungeons in Remnant 2 on your own.
