Baldur's Gate 3 is a hit, but it isn't just its D&D style combat drawing people in. No, there's a whole lot of us that are really hyped to get a new fancy dress-up sim, creating a bunch of pretty characters before we even think about starting the game. It turns out a whole lot of you had the same idea too, because the player stats are unbelievable.

According to Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3 players spent a combined time of 88 years in character creation on the opening weekend alone. It's easy to see why though, because a staggering 93 percent of players opted to create their own origin, rather than use one of the six presets.

This info comes from a huge dump of stats Larian just provided us with, showing us how we spent last weekend. Just as you may have expected from all of the buzz online, players were hooked, playing for an eyewatering 10,000,000 hours - or well over one thousand years. This means that around nine percent of the total playtime over the weekend was spent designing characters, which isn't bad, considering you can't return to the character creator once you start your adventure.

But what's more impressive than how slow some of us are taking it is how fast the others are speeding through. Somehow, 368 brave souls managed to beat the entire main story already. For reference, my partner is 50 hours in and hasn't even beaten the first act. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Of course, Larian also has some stats on romances for us. Surprise surprise, Shadowheart is in the lead so far. But what is a bit more unexpected is just how popular Gale has proven to be. The wizard isn't just the second-most picked romance option, but also the top pick for preset origins. Not bad going at all.

Other than that, we also have some data on the most popular races. To little surprise, half-elves take the lead, but not by much at all. Humans and elves closely follow, with githyanki in dead last. Lae'zel is also the least-picked origin character - no one's brave enough to play with a nose like that, it seems. Cowards, quite frankly.
