Baldur's Gate 3 has been in the hands of fans for a decent while now, yet Larian is still hard at work doling out fixes and tweaking any issues that players find on their travels. A number of hotfixes have been dished out over the past week, though the most recent update has fixed a problem that Larian probably couldn't have forseen no matter how much playtesting it did before the full launch.

According to the game's most recent hotfix, a lot of players in Baldur's Gate 3 were doing so much in their own adventures that their personal "story" databases were getting too big and causing all sorts of issues such as crashes and glitches (thanks Kotaku). Obviously, Baldur's Gate 3 is a game full of personal choices and the game takes into account all of your decisions, even in side quests and optional content, so all of you completionists out there were doing too much and cramming up your databases so much things needed fixing.

It also probably doesn't help that save-scumming is quite a popular thing to do in choice-driven titles such as Baldur's Gate 3, which is the act of saving your game before big decisions in order to potentially reload your game if you get an outcome you don't want. If these story databases expanded even when people reloaded and picked even more dialogue options, you can see how this might cause some issues with a capped database.

Thankfully, this latest hotfix has now uncapped your story databases, meaning you'll now be able to make as many choices as your own personal storage space will allow, letting you make decisions and save-scum as much as you damn well please. As a side note, Larian has also re-enabled cross-saves for the game with the upcoming release of the game's PS5 version, and explained that Hotfix 3 is already in the works and will address a few more prevalent issues among the community.

Perhaps one such issue will be the fact that you can actually break Baldur's Gate 3 by learning too many spells too early. It turns out that if you buy spells with gold and add them to your permanent collection, it's possible to run into a pretty nasty bug when you level up, as you'll be stuck when forced to pick a spell to earn via level up because you've already bought them all.
