It's no secret that Overwatch 2 fans aren't exactly happy with the way development has gone ever since Blizzard scrapped the original game in favor of its arguably inferior sequel. It's a title that's been mired in controversy almost consistently, with a fanbase eager to let Blizzard know whenever possible that they're fed up with how things have been going. With the game's recent release on Steam giving players the ability to review it, you know that fans have taken the opportunity to dunk on the game yet again.

Overwatch launched on Steam earlier today, yet it's already sitting at "Mostly Negative" user reviews (thanks PC Gamer). With just over 7,500 user submitted reviews at the time of writing, there's a seemingly endless list of criticisms being thrown at both Overwatch 2 and Blizzard itself, most of them complaining about the game's monetisation options or how Blizzard has dramatically scaled back its PvE campaign in favor of standalone missions.

The most popular review, that almost 6,000 people have marked as helpful, comes from Steam user Ornge, who labels the game as "an attempt to pry open your wallet while masquerading as the game it used to be". In this review, they call the game's Battle Pass system "a joke" compared to other games, the practice of locking heroes behind Battle Passes as "pay to win", and lament at how the game is actually fun to play but has been "damaged by such intrusive greed".

It's not exactly an unpopular opinion, proven by the amount of support the review is getting and the thousands of similar reviews from other players. Even some of the positive reviews are either making fun of the game in an ironic fashion or just thankful they don't have to deal with Blizzard's own launcher any more. There are also a few troublemakers deliberately choosing to promote Team Fortress 2 instead, given that the two titles have some kind of weird rivalry going on. Otherwise it's just memes and NSFW jokes all the way down.

It'll be interesting to see if Overwatch 2 ever does manage to turn things around with its audience, although Blizzard seems pretty content on staying the course at the moment. The recent release of its PvE missions that we're having to pay $15 for hasn't exactly helped ease the tensions between Blizzard and its fans, and not even new heroes can quell the everlasting anger they seem to harbor against the developer. Repairing that relationship is a bit of a lost cause, though Blizzard probably won't care as long as it's making enough cash.
