Designed to be played in just an hour, Horrified is a co-op game for up to five players that has you explore the world and face off against the most famous monsters. Meant to be easy to learn, but full of replayability, older editions have had you work against the likes of the Invisible Man, Dracula, and the Creature From The Black Lagoon, or, in American Monsters, classic cryptids like the Chupacabra, Jersey Devil, and the Ozark Howler.

Playing as avatars chosen by the gods of Olympus, this edition of Horrified introduces a new Lairs mechanic to add a bit of suspense and unpredictability. You won’t know which monster you’ve found until you reveal their lairs hidden across the Isle of Elysium. These could be locations like Medusa’s Statue Garden, the Labyrinth of Knossos, and even the door to the Underworld. Taking on the monsters won’t be easy, as you’ll need to work out their weaknesses and pick up unique abilities to stop them – though you can scale the difficulty up and down by adding more monsters into the mix.

All in all, there are six Greek monsters to encounter: the Minotaur, Cerberus, the Chimera, Medusa, the Siren, and the Basilisk. Horrified is a series known for its impeccable aesthetic, and Greek Monsters looks set to be no exception, with high-quality figures, redesigned cards to fully fit the Greek theme, and a vibrant board. Even compared to the older versions of Horrified, Greek Monsters looks like a massive step up, with more detail than we’ve ever seen before.

Horrified: Greek Monsters

In a press release announcing Horrified: Greek Monsters, game development manager at Ravensburger North America Mike Mulvihill said “After tackling our favorite cryptids in Horrified: American Monsters, we wanted to gamify some of the most iconic monsters in the world, so of course we found inspiration in Greek myths. Horrified: Greek Monsters is filled with surprises for first-time and long-time Horrified players from bold and vibrant art direction to the new Lairs mechanic.”

Horrified: Greek Monsters is set to launch on October 1 on Amazon, in Target, and in your local game store, with preorders opening on September 5. Costing $34.99, it could be a perfect game to bust out just in time for Halloween.
